Utah Attorney General's 2016 CLE Conference

A native of Sullivan, Ind., Richard M. Bramer is an alumnus of Sullivan High School, Wabash College, and Indiana University School of Law – Bloomington. He joined the Office of Attorney General Steve Carter in 2002, first serving in the Civil Rights and Employment section, concentrating on federal litigation and defense of judges and prosecutors. He then was assigned as counsel to the Indiana Department of Labor and the Indiana Department of Correction. In 2008, Attorney General Carter promoted Bramer to chief counsel of the Advisory Division, and he continued to serve in that capacity under Attorney General Greg Zoeller.

Zoeller later appointed Bramer to serve as the office’s federal and congressional liaison based in Washington, and then most recently as the director of Indiana’s Consumer Protection Division, which also oversees all multi-state and antitrust matters for the Indiana attorney general.

 

In 11 years of private practice, Bramer served as Sullivan County chief deputy prosecuting attorney, Sullivan city attorney, judge pro tempore of the Sullivan Circuit Court, school corporation attorney, and counsel to numerous towns, townships, and conservancy districts in Sullivan County and elsewhere in western Indiana.

 

Bramer also previously served as an attorney in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Civil Rights for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C., and as chief of staff and chief counsel to the Indiana state treasurer. Bramer attends St. Paul’s Parish (Episcopal), enjoys living in Washington’s thriving Shaw neighborhood, and looks forward to rejoining Stonewall Sports D.C. now that he is back in Washington full-time.
